Holy Balm – ‘Holy Balm Theme’ (Official Video)

Last year when LA Vampires (Amanda Brown of Not Not Fun and friends) journeyed through Australia, they came across a bevy of exciting down-under talent. What did it the most for them though was Sydney Post-Power trio Holy Balm, who’s album It’s You recently came out on Not Not Fun.

Drawing gestures from new wave, house, tribalism and pop, their ‘Holy Balm Theme’ is a buoyant, joyous exercise in how to have as much fun as possible in four minutes. All languid vocals, bouncy bass stabs, compelling rhythms and shiny synthesisers, it’s pretty much a chrome plated single.

In the accompanying music video, white static transforms into keyboard fetish shots, trippy early 90s style CGI animations and a series of melting, bleeding faces, all followed by dance shots and crotch close-ups. And that is just the first minute and a half.
